    profiles .V1 to .V2

    Hello
I got a question about the migration from win2003 to win2008
Since the 2 versions are different and incompatible, when i make the migration from win2003 the name of the users change and become <name>.v2
Is that gonna be a problem? Will the users's profiles from win2003 are still gonna "work" on win2008?!

    Thank you.

    Hello Virginia,

this behavior is quite normal. This ending is used to distinguish between the old V1 (Windows 2003) and the new V2 (Windows 2008, 2008 R2) profiles.
After migration is done the name of the profile folder is changed to <name>.V2. This change does not affect the username.
The newly created user profile (<name>.V2) will be used by windows 2008. Windows 2008 ignores the old V1 profile.

If you are doing your migration with Profile Migrator all necessary settings of your old V1 profile can be migrated into a brand new V2 profile. This means you get a new slim profile without garbage.

    Does that answer your question?

    Thank you for the answer!

but sometimes the "garbage" like files and pictures is pretty precious... can I migrate that too? Or you assume all users have Folder redirection?

    Hi Alex,

if you have precious files you can migrate them, too.
Which migration mode are you using and where are these files located? Inside or outside your user profiles?

    server mode:
    - precious files inside the user profile folder can be migrated by choosing an appropriate ACS file or by using a self created ACS

    client mode:
    - The screen "source system" allows you to define locations of user data outside user profile.
    or
    - Select/create an ACS file to migrate important files, which are inside your user profile

    cloud mode:
    - the same as in client mode.

By default we do not assume that you have folder redirections in your environment. If you are using folder redirections you can define them in Profile Migrator.

If you have any further questions do not hesitate to contact us.

    Regards,
    Ferhat

    Thank you Ferhat,

So if I have a documents in XP My Documents folder (not redirected, in a roaming profile) I have to use server mode and need to create a custom ACS to migrate them right? I am comparing your tool to USMT. You have a plus - can work with roaming profiles (looks like); but USMT has a list of default files/locations to migrate. If I need more I can add XMLs. It looks like your software just create an empty profile and can migrate settings for applications with defined ACS. To add file migration I need to create ACS myself. Am I right?

    Hi Alex,

I assume that you have already downloaded all sepago ACS files. If not sign-in and go to Help -> Check for ACS Updates.
If you want to migrate "My Documents" choose the following ACS file "File System - My Documents, Music, Pictures, Videos", which can be found below the node "OS Settings".

If you cannot find an ACS file in our public ACS collection you can create your own using ACS-Builder.

That's right, we use a clean base profile and inject all the necessary settings & data which the user has defined by selecting the appropriate ACS file/ACS script.

    Ferhat
